Plant Care Tips After Shipping

Thank you for choosing Blooming House! To help your new plant settle in and thrive, please follow these care tips:

Watering

Check the soil moisture before watering. While your plant may be thirsty after its journey, only water if the soil feels dry about an inch below the surface. Overwatering can cause root rot, especially if the soil is still damp from shipping. If the soil is moist, wait 24 hours and check again. Once the soil dries out, resume your regular watering routine, tailored to your plant’s specific needs.

Light

Provide bright, indirect light to help your plant regain strength. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight right away, as leaves that are stressed from shipping are more susceptible to sunburn. If natural light is limited, a quality grow light can help support healthy growth during this adjustment period.

Humidity

Most tropical plants prefer humidity levels between 60% and 70%. If your home’s air is dry, consider increasing humidity by using a humidifier, placing a pebble tray with water beneath your plant, or grouping plants together to create a microclimate. However, many plants gradually adapt to typical indoor humidity levels over time.

Temperature

Keep your plant in a stable environment, ideally between 65°F and 75°F (18°C–24°C). Avoid drafts, sudden temperature changes, or placing your plant near heaters, air conditioners, or vents, as fluctuations can increase stress.

Repotting

Avoid repotting immediately after shipping. Give your plant at least 3 to 4 weeks to acclimate to its new surroundings before repotting. This helps minimize transplant shock and gives you a clearer idea of the plant’s root health and needs.

Shipping Stress Signs

It’s normal to see a few yellow, brown, or damaged leaves after shipping. These are signs of temporary stress, not necessarily poor health. You can prune damaged leaves to encourage new growth, but be gentle—your plant is still recovering.

Additional Tips

  • Fertilizing: Hold off on fertilizing for at least 4 weeks after shipping to avoid overwhelming your plant. Once acclimated, feed according to the plant’s specific requirements.
  • Pest Check: Inspect your plant carefully for any pests or signs of disease. Shipping can sometimes expose plants to new environments where pests may appear. Treat promptly if needed.
  • Patience is Key: Every plant is different—some may bounce back quickly, while others need more time to adjust. Monitor your plant closely and make gradual changes to care routines as needed.
